I would say the "hiding" who you are is more Sun in 12th. This especially in water signs. Former President of the U.S.A George Bush has Sun in 12th. His Leo Asc default persona betrays his Sun in Cancer more reticent and passive position.
With Sun in 8th, the personality is more of a "discovery". In that the self (Sun) is often hidden under various layers of psychological barriers that one has to consciously dig through.
The native has great power within them.
But often they find themselves having to practice the mantra of "self belief". And usually this inner confidence is honed when one has gone through upheavals and strife (8th house).
In other words, the light (Sun) never shines out in the day quite as radiant and pwerful as it is seen during the darkest of nights(8th)
So it is for this reason that Sun in 8th house people seem to be unconsciously drawn to crisis and things that scare the hell out of the rest of us.In that they are looking to discover their own light (Sun). The light (Sun) within (8th). Who they really are.
Often I see that with Sco Sun, there is a need to find a way to make ones own way in the world through financial independence.
Often Sun in Sco(or those with South node in Sco), will find it easy to rely on the sponsorship/resources of others. Thereby getting trapped in other's emotional games/manipulation tactics because the other person has gotten them accustomed to a life they can't escape.
Maybe the other person uses their leverage/power to override the Sco Sun's will/ego. And they find themselves blessed with material wealth. But the price they pay for that is HUGE. There are a lot of power plays and little peace of mind. As they have to constantly "manage" their beneficiarie's ego.
Sometimes it IS Sco who resorts to this i.e THEY are the ones with the treasure chest and ability to change another's life drastically. But then there are strings attached. The other must jump at request of the Sco's will.
Sag Sun Jane Fonda can tell you all about that. She married Sco Ted Turner. A very wealthy man with a terrible temper.
I often see the same themes appear with Sun in 8th. In that they can either wait for another to come "rescue" them i.e a wealthier spouse/lover/ Family's influence etc. Or they can learn to harness their own resources 🤷🏿♂️.
Often the self esteem is shaky(this especially when Moon is also is in Sco/ aspect to Pluto). Anger issues and problems with the temper can be the case . As they can go through a series of up/down emotional highs and lows brought on by loss/collapse. That finding peace is difficult.
Maybe the Sun in 8th feels like their life is a series of having to "start over"? There is certain level of personal detachment they get from having to see everything they worked for crumble. And in that aftermath, just like the Sco Phoenix analogy, they discover who they REALLY are(Sun).
